Uklon Food Delivery — Product Design Project

Designing a seamless food and grocery delivery flow within the Uklon super app

Three Uklon food delivery screens

About the product

Uklon is a Ukrainian super app that started as a ride-hailing service and later expanded into parcel delivery and intercity trips. The next step in their product strategy was adding food delivery to compete with players like Glovo and Bolt Food.

Our team was tasked to design a food and grocery delivery experience that feels intuitive, competitive, and seamlessly integrated into the existing app.

Problem

Users already rely on Uklon for rides and deliveries, but they need:

  • A fast and reliable way to order food and groceries
  • Smooth navigation between different services inside one app
  • Features that match or surpass competitors (customization, group orders, transparent tracking)

For Uklon, the challenge was:

  • Expanding into a competitive market with strong incumbents
  • Building food delivery without overwhelming the existing app experience

Objective

Design an end-to-end food delivery flow that is:

  • Clear and fast for busy, time-conscious users
  • Flexible (customization, group orders, tips)
  • Integrated into the super app ecosystem

Design process

We worked within a Design Thinking framework, combining client research with our own competitive and UX analysis.

1. Research & Analysis

🔹 Reviewed client’s in-depth user interviews (blurred data due to NDA)

Interview synthesis table, blurred under NDA

🔹 Benchmarked direct competitors: Glovo, Bolt Food, Uber Eats, LOKO

Competitor screens

🔹 Key user needs identified:

  • Quick ways to find and choose meals
  • Ability to customize orders
  • Clear and flexible payment options
  • Real-time order tracking

2. Define

🔹 OOUX to structure system objects, roles, and corner cases

OOUX object map

🔹 Business Process Diagram to map dependencies between business and user flows

🔹 Persona & CJM to align around user motivations, pain points, and goals

3. Ideation

Brainstormed ideas and prioritized them into a feature roadmap.

🔹 Focus areas:

  • Catalog & filters
  • Product customization
  • Cart, checkout, and payments
  • Order status tracking (incl. widget)
  • Ratings & tips
  • Group order flow

4. Design & Prototype

We designed and prototyped the core flows:

🔹 Discovery: main page, restaurants, grocery stores, search & filters

Discovery flow

🔹 Ordering: product details, add-ons, cart, checkout

Ordering flow

🔹 Tracking & Engagement: status page, in-app widgets, tips and ratings

Tracking and rating flow

🔹 Group Order: shared cart with individual device access and status tracking

Group order flow

5. Testing

We tested the prototype with users on key scenarios, e.g., ordering a customized pizza.

🔹 Findings:

  • Quick-access categories significantly speed up ordering
  • Users wanted to customize items at checkout
  • Lock-screen widget increased perceived convenience
  • Flexibility to cancel/edit orders was expected

These insights informed the final iteration before handoff.

Final Solution

A seamlessly integrated food delivery flow within the Uklon app:

  • New “Food” tab in bottom navigation
  • Personalized discovery (categories, promotions, recent orders)
  • Customizable product cards with add-ons
  • Clear checkout and payment options
  • Order status widget for easy tracking
  • Tips & ratings for engagement
  • Group order functionality for shared baskets

Outcome

We delivered a full set of design artifacts and a tested prototype, including:

  • OOUX, Persona, CJM, Business Process Diagram
  • Interactive prototypes & visual design
  • Usability testing insights

The project provided Uklon’s product team with a ready-to-implement solution for launching food and grocery delivery inside their super app.
